Nepal
Standing at the "Roof of the World,” Nepal is probably best known for being home to eight of the world’s ten highest mountains, including the incomparable Mount Everest, the loftiest of them all. This small Himalayan country, surrounded by China, India and Bhutan, is stunningly beautiful, with some of the planet’s most picturesque mountain scenery. Over 80 percent of Nepal’s people practice the Hindu religion, making it, along with Bali, the only Hindu nation in the world outside of India (Buddhism also maintains a strong influence however). Nepal’s monarchy was dissolved in May of 2008 and replaced with a federalized, multi-party republic.
Remote Lands is eager to take you trekking and climbing but also to show you some of the country’s other incredible features such as the Swayambhunath Temple in Kathmandu, an elephant safari to see one-horned rhinos in the Chitwan National Park, adventure sports in Pokhara which include ultra-lites, paragliding, the world’s highest zipline - which comes with the amazing backdrop of the Himalayas - trekking the Everest region, helicoptering to the Everest base camp, tackling the Annapurna trail, and seeking out the isolated Kingdom of Mustang and the spectacular ancient cities of Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Patan.

Weather in Nepal
The best time to visit Nepal is between October and December, when the weather is clear and pleasant. Between February and April also is dry and fine for trekking.
- Nepal’s varied and extreme topography (it includes eight of the world’s 14 tallest mountains) makes for a wide range of weather patterns; in general, however, the country has mild temperatures year-round.
- Ideal times to visit are spring (March to April) and autumn (October to November), when there are clear skies, low humidity, and the country’s flora and fauna are vibrant and highly visible. Temperatures hover around 75° to 83°F (24° to 28°C), though nighttime temperatures can be considerably cooler.
- June to September is the rainy season, characterized by sporadic downpours, generally cloudy skies, and muddy roads.
- In general, as you gain elevation, temperatures fall and the climate becomes increasingly dry. Winter is coldest at higher altitudes, but Pokhara and even Kathmandu are relatively mild and pleasant.
